WHY MEDITATION ?

Meditation is concentration or focusing or emptying your thoughts.
You do physical exercises to tone up your body, Meditation is there to tone up your mind.
It is like emptying your mind or focusing on one thing, either way it is concentration.

Hectic schedules...stressful day`s work ....why again stress or strain your mind to focus or concentrate?
It is the opposite. It is not that you are stressing out more, it is that.. you are relaxing !!.
It is always difficult to concentrate..but still if you master the technique of focusing it helps you in your real life too.Whether you are a theist or an atheist, it is irrelevant!

What is to concentrate?
If you are a theist concentrate on the God you believe, if you are an atheist you can concentrate on any thing. Before meditating better concentrate on your breathings....inhale slowly and feel the positive energy as you are breathing in...exhale slowly pushing the negative energy out, as you are breathing out.

Mind is always wandering...let it be, but slowly ask your mind to calm down. If you are disturbed with unwanted thoughts, set them aside..give all those unwanted thoughts a bench to sit and cool down, but you keep on concentrating on one focus point

How to Meditate?
First and foremost requirement is  'sthira sukham asanam' that is a comfortable position..a posture you can sit or lie down for hours together.
Close your eyes to disconnect yourself from the visions of outer world. Observe your breath..just concentrate on your breath. Relax!!
If you are a theist pray your God, ask the divine to help you to concentrate. If you are an atheist ask your mind to help you.
Now try to move your attention towards the middle of your eyebrow, just concentrate there and relax.
Meditate  only when you feel the time is appropriate for you. Make sure you are relaxed and comfortable. Choose a convenient  place too.

Meditation techniques.
when you try to concentrate on one particular thing, you realize it is not that easy! Your mind keeps on flooding with different thoughts. Numerous techniques  are there to help you. I shall explain you a technique which I practiced.
Thrataka
Take a small lamp. Light it and see that the flame is blue and small. Let the meditation room be small and calm. Close all the windows and door, no light should enter the room. Let it be pitch dark. Now concentrate on the flame without closing your eyes. The eyelids will become heavier and heavier. Still hold it and try not to close it. Don`t bother about tears.
At one stage, eyelids will become so heavy they close automatically. Then visualize the blue flame with eyes closed. The shape of the flame may vary. Just keep on concentrating the flame. Practice daily. After few weeks, you will realize that your concentration has improved.
Later you can try visualizing different objects after closing your eyes. Visualize each and every detail of the object you are visualizing. If you are a theist, you can visualize your God and feel that you are with him. Soon you will be the Master of this technique.

I shall explain you the benefits of Meditation in my future write ups.

Note :  Thrataka Technique not only helps you to concentrate but also improves your eye sight.
